What's Happening?
Entertainment and travel group EVT is transitioning to software-defined networking (SD-WAN) to enhance its data capacity and reduce reliance on physical content delivery. This move involves upgrading from Telstra Enterprise’s multiprotocol label switching
(MPLS) technology to a more flexible SD-WAN infrastructure. The initial deployment will cover EVT's 50 cinema sites, including its outdoor Moonlight Cinema locations, with plans for a broader rollout across its hotels and resorts. EVT's group general manager of technology and digital transformation, Andrew Turner, stated that this new architecture allows EVT to leverage various connection types, such as NBN fibre and 5G, facilitating the digital delivery of feature-length cinema content. The project is a collaboration with Fortinet and cloud security specialist Zscaler.
Why It's Important?
The transition to software-defined networking is significant for EVT as it enhances operational flexibility and efficiency in content delivery. By moving away from physical content delivery, EVT can streamline its operations, potentially reducing costs and improving service delivery. This technological upgrade aligns with EVT's business transformation goals and its focus on growing revenue above market rates. The ability to leverage multiple connection types ensures that EVT can maintain high-quality service across its entertainment and hospitality venues, which is crucial for customer satisfaction and competitive advantage in the industry.
What's Next?
Following the initial deployment in cinema sites, EVT plans to extend the SD-WAN technology to its QT Hotels and Resorts and Rydges Hotels & Resorts. This broader rollout will further integrate EVT's network infrastructure, enhancing the guest experience across its various business segments. The company is likely to continue collaborating with technology partners to optimize its network capabilities and support its growth objectives. Stakeholders, including customers and partners, may anticipate improved service delivery and operational efficiencies as EVT implements these technological advancements.
