What's Happening?
Hippeas, a snack brand known for its 'better-for-you' products, has introduced a new line of plant-based snack puffs called Protein Crunch. These snacks are made with 8 grams of pea protein per serving and are cooked using avocado oil. The new product line is
available in two flavors: Cheddar Vibrations and Pizza Party. According to Nick Marmet, vice president of marketing at Hippeas, the company aimed to create a snack that combines a satisfying crunch with significant protein content, doubling the protein of their original puffs. The snacks are available for purchase online through platforms like Amazon and TikTok Shop, and the Cheddar Vibrations flavor is also available at Sprouts Farmers Market. A broader retail rollout is planned for the summer.
Why It's Important?
The launch of Hippeas' Protein Crunch puffs reflects the growing consumer demand for plant-based and protein-rich snacks. As more consumers seek healthier snack options, companies like Hippeas are innovating to meet these preferences. This trend is significant for the snack industry, as it pushes brands to develop products that cater to health-conscious consumers. The introduction of these snacks could potentially increase Hippeas' market share and influence other companies to expand their plant-based offerings. Additionally, the use of pea protein aligns with the increasing interest in sustainable and plant-based protein sources, which are considered more environmentally friendly compared to animal-based proteins.
What's Next?
Hippeas plans to expand the retail availability of its Protein Crunch puffs over the summer, which could lead to increased consumer access and sales. The company may also explore additional flavors or variations to further capitalize on the plant-based protein trend. As the market for plant-based snacks continues to grow, other snack brands might introduce similar products, intensifying competition in this segment. Retailers and distributors will likely monitor consumer response to these products to adjust their inventory and marketing strategies accordingly.
