Aclara Resources, a Canadian mining company, has partnered with a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory to apply artificial intelligence (AI) in refining rare earth elements in Brazil. This collaboration aims to enhance the efficiency of separating heavy rare earths, such as dysprosium and terbium, which are crucial for various high-tech applications. The project, supported by the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, leverages AI to simulate industrial processes, reducing risks and costs. The initiative is part of a broader effort to secure a stable supply of rare earths, which are vital for manufacturing electronic devices and defense systems.
