What's Happening?
Nike is set to re-release the Air Diamond Turf 2, Deion Sanders' second signature sneaker, in its original colorway for the first time since 1994. The sneaker, inspired by the San Francisco 49ers, features a combination of Fire Red, White, Black, and Metallic Gold, which Nike refers to as Prime Red. This release marks the first time since 2012 that the sneaker will be available, and it includes personalized details such as Sanders' uniform number, 21, on the tongue badge and his logo on the heel. The sneaker will be available on February 6 through Nike's Snkrs app and select retailers for $170.
Why It's Important?
The reissue of the Air Diamond Turf 2 is significant as it taps into the nostalgia of sports fans and sneaker enthusiasts who remember Deion Sanders'
impact on both football and fashion. By bringing back the original design, Nike is appealing to collectors and fans of retro sportswear, potentially boosting sales and brand loyalty. This release also highlights the ongoing trend of retro sneaker reissues, which continue to be popular in the sneaker market. The inclusion of personalized details further enhances the appeal, making it a must-have for fans of Sanders and the 49ers.
What's Next?
Following the release of the Prime Red colorway, Nike is expected to release additional colorways of the Air Diamond Turf 2, including the original white-based '49ers' style. The success of this reissue could lead to more retro releases from Nike, as the brand continues to capitalize on the popularity of vintage sportswear. Collectors and fans will likely keep an eye on future announcements for new colorways and potential collaborations involving the Air Diamond Turf 2.
