A new device called Allergen Alert was showcased at CES 2026, designed to help individuals with food allergies detect gluten and dairy in their meals. The pocket-sized device allows users to take a sample of their food, place it in a single-use pouch, and insert it into the device to receive allergen results within minutes. Although not yet available for purchase, the device is currently being trialed by professional chefs to ensure food safety before meals are served. Allergen Alert is a spin-off from bioMérieux, a company with a long history in clinical microbiology and food safety. The device was co-developed with allergists and food safety experts, aiming to provide a reliable tool for individuals with food allergies, as well as for use in restaurants,
hotels, schools, and other food service environments.
