What's Happening?
Hyundai Motor Group's Robotics Lab is set to showcase its MobED mobile platform at the Smart Factory & Automation World (AW) 2026 in Seoul. MobED, short for 'Mobile Eccentric Droid,' features four independently controlled wheels and an eccentric mechanism
for agility across various terrains. The platform, unveiled in December 2025, has already received a 'Best of Innovation Award' at CES 2026. AW 2026 will feature over 50 global robotics companies, highlighting the convergence of AI, industrial robotics, and humanoid technologies. The event will also include a Smart Logistics Zone, focusing on robotics, autonomous driving, and AI-driven systems, offering insights into future logistics operations.
Why It's Important?
The exhibition of MobED and other robotics innovations at AW 2026 underscores the growing role of AI and robotics in transforming manufacturing and logistics. Hyundai's advancements in mobile robotics and its collaboration with companies like Boston Dynamics and Waymo highlight the industry's shift towards AI-native production systems and intelligent logistics. This transformation is crucial for enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving safety in industrial operations. The event also reflects the increasing global competition in robotics, with companies from Japan, Denmark, and China participating, indicating a broader trend towards automation and smart manufacturing.
What's Next?
AW 2026 is expected to serve as a turning point for the manufacturing industry, evolving beyond traditional smart factory exhibitions to focus on AI and robotics. The event will feature robot-related conferences, including the China Humanoid Robot Conference, showcasing the latest trends and technological advancements. As the industry continues to embrace AI and robotics, companies will need to adapt to new technologies and integrate them into their operations. This shift may lead to increased investment in R&D and collaboration between global robotics firms, driving further innovation and development in the sector.
