What's Happening?
CSP is conducting its second annual Outlook Report survey to gather insights from convenience-store operators across the United States. This survey aims to collect critical intelligence on the current state of the convenience channel, focusing on issues
such as economic outlook, technology investments, workforce retention strategies, and competition from dollar stores, quick-service restaurants, and e-commerce. The findings will be presented at the Outlook Leadership Conference scheduled for August 4-6 in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Last year's report highlighted challenges like inflation, labor shortages, and the integration of new technologies. This year's survey seeks to delve deeper into these issues, exploring merchandising priorities, foodservice expansion plans, and market consolidation trends. Participation in the survey is confidential, with results reported in aggregate to ensure candid feedback.
Why It's Important?
The survey's findings are crucial for understanding the evolving landscape of the convenience-store industry, which faces significant challenges from various fronts. Inflation and labor shortages continue to impact operations, while competition from non-traditional players like e-commerce and dollar stores intensifies. The insights gathered will help operators adapt their strategies to maintain competitiveness and operational efficiency. By participating, retailers can benchmark their experiences against industry peers, gaining valuable perspectives on how to navigate these challenges. The report will also inform strategic decisions regarding technology investments and workforce management, which are critical for sustaining growth and profitability in a rapidly changing market.
What's Next?
The results of the survey will be unveiled at the Outlook Leadership Conference, providing a platform for industry leaders to discuss and strategize on the findings. Retailers are expected to use the insights to refine their business strategies, focusing on areas such as technology adoption, workforce retention, and competitive positioning. The conference will likely facilitate discussions on collaboration and innovation, helping operators to address the challenges identified in the survey. As the industry continues to evolve, the findings will serve as a guide for future investments and operational adjustments.
