What's Happening?
Henriksen AS, a Norwegian company, has developed a new automatic launch and recovery system (LARS) for small boats and unmanned surface drones (USVs). This system will be showcased at the Seawork event in Southampton from June 9-11. The innovative system allows
for the rapid deployment of Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) and USVs from the stern ramp of a mother vessel. The system is designed to enable police or military crews to board and launch a RIB in under two minutes, which is crucial for quick response in customs and police operations. Additionally, the system can deploy drones for mine clearance tasks. The system utilizes Henriksen's expertise in boat lifting and capture claw hooks, which automatically secure and retrieve crafts onto the mother ship. The new system is being manufactured at Henriksen's facility in Tønsberg, Norway.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Henriksen's new LARS system represents a significant advancement in maritime operations, particularly for law enforcement and military applications. The ability to rapidly deploy and recover vessels enhances operational efficiency and response times, which is critical in high-stakes scenarios such as customs enforcement and mine clearance. This system could potentially reduce the time and manpower required for such operations, leading to cost savings and increased safety for personnel. The innovation also highlights the growing importance of automation in maritime technology, which can lead to more effective and streamlined operations across the industry.
What's Next?
The new LARS system will be presented at the Seawork event, where it is expected to attract interest from various maritime sectors, including military, law enforcement, and commercial operators. Following its debut, the system may see adoption by organizations looking to enhance their operational capabilities. The success of this system could lead to further innovations in automated maritime technologies, potentially influencing future designs and applications in the industry.
