What's Happening?
BlackSea Technologies has selected the ANELLO Photonics Maritime Inertial Navigation System (INS) for its Chaser Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) platforms. This decision follows successful demonstrations on the GARC platform. The collaboration aims to mitigate
the vulnerabilities of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to jamming and spoofing, which pose significant risks to both defense and commercial maritime missions. The ANELLO Maritime INS, based on Silicon Photonics Optical Gyroscope (SiPhOG) technology, provides high-precision heading and positioning performance in environments where GPS may be unavailable or compromised. This integration is part of a broader industry shift towards internalizing navigation capabilities to bypass GNSS dependence.
Why It's Important?
The integration of ANELLO's INS into BlackSea's Chaser platform is significant as it enhances the resilience of autonomous maritime operations. By reducing reliance on external satellite signals, the system ensures operational continuity in GPS-denied environments, which is crucial for both defense and commercial missions. This development reflects a growing trend in the maritime industry to adopt advanced inertial navigation technologies to safeguard against GNSS vulnerabilities. The partnership between ANELLO and BlackSea Technologies highlights the importance of reliable navigation systems in maintaining autonomy, safety, and mission assurance in modern maritime operations.
