What's Happening?
Marriott International has announced the signing of nine new hotel deals in Greece, which will add nearly 1,000 rooms to its existing portfolio in the country. This expansion includes the introduction of the Residence Inn by Marriott and Le Méridien brands
to Greece. The new projects are part of Marriott's strategy to strengthen its presence in key leisure, resort, and urban locations across Greece. Among the new developments is the Hymnos, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa in Zakynthos, set to open in 2026. The expansion also includes the 57-room Residence Inn by Marriott Athens and the 229-room Le Méridien Sissi Crete, both expected to open in the coming years.
Why It's Important?
This expansion signifies Marriott's commitment to growing its luxury and premium offerings in Greece, a popular tourist destination. By introducing new brands like Residence Inn and Le Méridien, Marriott aims to cater to diverse traveler needs, from extended stays to luxury experiences. The move is expected to boost the local economy by creating jobs and attracting more tourists. It also reflects the confidence of hotel owners and franchisees in Marriott's brand portfolio, which could lead to further investments in the region.
What's Next?
Marriott plans to continue its expansion in Greece, with several projects slated to open between 2025 and 2028. The company will focus on enhancing its luxury footprint and diversifying its offerings to meet the growing demand for unique travel experiences. As these new hotels open, Marriott will likely see increased competition from other international hotel chains looking to capitalize on Greece's tourism market.
