What's Happening?
Aggreko, a Scotland-based energy solutions company, has signed a significant power purchase agreement (PPA) with Harmony Gold, a South African mining company, to develop Australia's largest off-grid renewable hybrid power facility. This project will support
the construction and operation of the Eva copper project in northwest Queensland. The power plant will integrate a 118 MWp solar farm, a 250 MWh battery energy storage system, and a 104 MVA thermal power facility. Aggreko will build, own, and operate the plant, which is designed to maximize renewable energy use, thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The project is seen as a milestone for both Aggreko and the Australian mining sector, reflecting a broader shift towards renewable energy in the resources industry.
