What's Happening?
Wilson Sons, a longstanding port and shipping logistics operator, has launched WS Capella, the second in a series of three high-powered tugboats. The launch ceremony took place at the company's shipyard, marking a significant step in Wilson Sons' fleet
renewal and expansion strategy. WS Capella, like its predecessor WS Halcyon, is an ASD 2312 class tugboat, measuring 23 meters in length and 12 meters in width. It is equipped with azimuth thrusters and boasts a 70-ton bollard pull, enabling it to manage the largest ships operating in Brazil. The tugboat will operate in the Port of Santos, the largest port complex in Latin America. Its modern design reduces fuel consumption, contributing to lower emissions, and it is equipped with a fire-fighting system capable of delivering 2,400,000 liters of water per hour. The vessel's godmother is Flávia Carvalho, Executive Director of Wilson Sons Shipping Agency. Another tugboat of the same class is under construction, with delivery expected in the third quarter of this year.
Why It's Important?
The launch of WS Capella is a strategic move by Wilson Sons to enhance its operational capabilities in the Port of Santos, a critical hub for maritime trade in Latin America. By expanding its fleet with modern, efficient vessels, Wilson Sons is positioning itself to better handle the increasing volume of maritime traffic and larger ships. This development is significant for the Brazilian economy, as efficient port operations are crucial for trade and economic growth. The reduced emissions from the new tugboats also align with global efforts to minimize environmental impact in the shipping industry. The investment in fleet renewal reflects Wilson Sons' commitment to maintaining its competitive edge and supporting sustainable maritime operations.
