What's Happening?
Zelim's ZOE has become the first man-overboard detection system to receive ISO 21195 certification, a globally recognized standard. This certification was granted by Lloyd's Register after successful testing on the Ambition vessel, managed by Ambassador
Cruise Line. The ZOE system, which uses advanced computer vision and video analytics, demonstrated a 97% detection rate during a 90-day trial period, surpassing the ISO's minimum requirements.
Why It's Important?
The certification of ZOE marks a significant advancement in maritime safety technology. By meeting the ISO 21195 standard, ZOE provides a reliable solution for detecting man-overboard incidents, addressing a critical safety concern in the cruise industry. This development could lead to widespread adoption of the technology, enhancing safety protocols and potentially saving lives. The system's ability to detect both adults and children further broadens its applicability and impact.
What's Next?
Following its certification, Zelim plans to promote the ZOE system for global adoption across the cruise industry and other sectors such as defense. The company aims to establish ZOE as the industry standard for unmanned search and rescue operations. As more cruise lines and maritime operators adopt this technology, it could lead to improved safety standards and influence future regulatory requirements.
