What's Happening?
Virgin Voyages has launched a new West Coast itinerary from the Los Angeles Cruise Terminal with its ship, Brilliant Lady, marking the cruise line's first venture from this port. The ship, which began its inaugural tour in September 2025 from New York,
is now making the Port of Los Angeles its homeport. This move introduces adults-only cruising experiences to iconic destinations along the Pacific Coast and beyond. The Brilliant Lady, a 110,000-ton vessel, is designed to accommodate 2,770 passengers and features 1,408 cabins. It offers a variety of amenities, including over 20 eateries, immersive entertainment, and wellness programming tailored for the West Coast. The ship also provides unique offerings such as dedicated solo cabins for passengers traveling alone.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Virgin Voyages to the Port of Los Angeles signifies a significant expansion in the cruise industry on the West Coast. This development is expected to boost the local economy, as the cruise industry at the port generated an estimated $300 million in 2025. The presence of Virgin Voyages is likely to attract more tourists and increase passenger traffic, contributing to economic growth in the region. Additionally, the focus on adults-only cruising and unique experiences may set a new standard in the cruise industry, appealing to a niche market seeking premium and exclusive travel experiences.
What's Next?
As Virgin Voyages establishes its presence on the West Coast, the cruise line may continue to expand its offerings and itineraries to include more destinations. The Port of Los Angeles, having experienced a record cruise year in 2025, is well-positioned to accommodate the growing demand for cruise travel. Future developments may include enhancements to port facilities and services to support the increasing number of passengers and cruise lines choosing Los Angeles as a homeport.
