What's Happening?
ABC has greenlit a new spinoff series, 'The Rookie: North,' for the 2026-27 season. The show is a continuation of the 'Rookie' franchise and will star Jay Ellis as Alex Holland, a man who joins the Pierce County Police Department as the oldest rookie
after a life-changing event. The series will explore his journey from urban areas to rural settings, where he must prove himself to his colleagues and himself. 'The Rookie: North' is one of two pilots ABC considered, with the other, a comedy titled 'Do You Want Kids?', not moving forward. The series is produced by Lionsgate Television and 20th TV, with Alexi Hawley as the writer and executive producer.
Why It's Important?
The addition of 'The Rookie: North' to ABC's lineup signifies the network's commitment to expanding successful franchises and attracting viewers with familiar yet fresh content. This move could strengthen ABC's ratings by capitalizing on the established fan base of 'The Rookie' while introducing new storylines and characters. The series also reflects the network's strategy to diversify its programming with a mix of drama and action, potentially appealing to a broad audience. The involvement of notable actors and producers further enhances the show's potential to succeed in a competitive television market.
