What's Happening?
The Texas Rangers, through their entertainment firm REV Entertainment, have acquired the Long Island Ducks, a baseball team based in Central Islip, New York. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
REV Entertainment, which serves as the ownership and operating arm of the Texas Rangers, manages Globe Life Field and oversees investments in Minor League Baseball and MLB partner league teams. The Long Island Ducks have been a part of the Atlantic League since 2000 and have consistently led all MLB partner leagues in total attendance over the past five seasons. The acquisition is part of the Rangers' strategy to expand their investment portfolio in minor league baseball, as they already hold ownership stakes in two American Association of Professional Baseball teams and one Frontier League club.
Why It's Important?
This acquisition signifies the Texas Rangers' commitment to expanding their influence and investment in minor league baseball. By acquiring the Long Island Ducks, the Rangers are not only enhancing their portfolio but also potentially increasing their revenue streams through ticket sales and community engagement. The Ducks' strong attendance record suggests a solid fan base, which could be beneficial for the Rangers in terms of brand expansion and market penetration in the New York area. Additionally, this move could provide the Rangers with a platform to develop talent and test new strategies in a less pressured environment compared to the major leagues.
What's Next?
Following the acquisition, REV Entertainment plans to enhance the fan experience and support local partnerships to ensure long-term growth and sustainability for the Long Island Ducks. Frank Boulton, the founder of the Ducks and the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, will join REV as an adviser, bringing his extensive experience to the organization. The focus will likely be on maintaining the Ducks' strong community ties while leveraging the Rangers' resources to improve operational efficiencies and fan engagement strategies.
