What's Happening?
Suterra, a division of The Wonderful Company, has announced the acquisition of Vestaron's product lines, active ingredients, and research and development pipeline. This acquisition includes the Spear® and Basin™ product lines, which have recently received
approval from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use in the U.S. The deal also encompasses assets from Vestaron's research facility in Kalamazoo, Michigan, along with additional active ingredients and product formulations under development. Suterra plans to begin manufacturing its own branded Spear® Lep product later this year. According to Matthew Bohnert, President of Suterra, the company is excited to integrate these products into its portfolio to continue supporting growers with reliable supply and technical expertise.
Why It's Important?
This acquisition is significant as it strengthens Suterra's position in the biologically based pest management market, a sector that is gaining importance due to increasing demand for sustainable agricultural practices. The integration of Vestaron's products, which have proven success and adoption among growers, is expected to enhance Suterra's ability to scale biologically based technologies effectively. This move could potentially lead to greater value delivery to growers globally, as noted by Juan Estupinan, CEO and President of Vestaron. The acquisition aligns with broader industry trends towards environmentally friendly pest control solutions, which are crucial for reducing chemical pesticide use and promoting ecological balance.
What's Next?
Suterra's next steps involve the commencement of manufacturing its branded Spear® Lep product, which is anticipated to further solidify its market presence. The company will likely focus on leveraging the newly acquired research and development capabilities to innovate and expand its product offerings. Stakeholders, including growers and agricultural advisors, may respond positively to the enhanced product availability and technical support. Additionally, the industry may observe increased competition as other companies seek to develop or acquire similar biologically based pest management solutions.
