What's Happening?
Avangrid, Inc., a prominent energy company in the U.S. and part of the Iberdrola Group, participated in the 2026 U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Energy Summit in Santa Fe, New Mexico. CEO Jose Antonio Miranda highlighted the company's efforts to address
energy affordability through significant infrastructure investments. The summit, themed 'Powering the Future of America’s Energy Economy,' gathered energy leaders, policymakers, and business owners to discuss U.S. energy policy and investment. Avangrid's projects, such as the New England Clean Energy Connect and Vineyard Wind 1, are expected to save Massachusetts residents over $6 billion in energy costs, benefiting the state's large Hispanic population.
Why It's Important?
The focus on energy affordability is crucial as it directly impacts economic mobility and community development, particularly for Hispanic communities facing high energy costs. Avangrid's investments in renewable energy and grid infrastructure not only aim to reduce costs but also enhance reliability and support local economic growth. This aligns with broader national goals of transitioning to sustainable energy sources and reducing carbon emissions. The summit underscores the importance of inclusive energy policies that consider the needs of diverse communities and small businesses, which are vital to the U.S. economy.
