What's Happening?
The University of Evansville is hosting its 14th annual LitFest from April 16-18, celebrating literature and storytelling. This event provides undergraduate students with a platform to present their creative and critical papers to an audience of peers,
professors, and community members. The festival includes opportunities for students to win awards for their scholarly and creative writing. A highlight of the event is a presentation by visiting scholar Alex Vernon, who will discuss his new biography of Tim O'Brien, an acclaimed American novelist known for works such as 'The Things They Carried.' Vernon's presentation is part of the Melvin M. Peterson Literary Forum and will take place at the Shanklin Theatre on the university campus.
Why It's Important?
LitFest serves as an important cultural and educational event, fostering a love for literature and providing a platform for young writers to showcase their work. By featuring a biographer of a renowned author like Tim O'Brien, the festival not only honors literary achievements but also inspires students to pursue their own writing careers. Events like these contribute to the academic and cultural vibrancy of the university and the broader community, encouraging engagement with literature and critical thinking. The festival's open access to the public also promotes community involvement and appreciation for the arts.
