What's Happening?
CBS Sports, a Paramount-owned U.S. sports network, has obtained exclusive English-language broadcasting rights for all women's competitions organized by Concacaf, the governing body for soccer in North and Central America and the Caribbean. This agreement,
effective until the 2029-30 season, will see Paramount+ streaming all matches from Concacaf's four women's competitions, with select games also airing on CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Golazo Network. The competitions covered include the W Gold Cup, W Nations League, W Championship, and the W Champions Cup. The deal builds on CBS Sports' previous agreements with Concacaf, which included rights to national team properties and qualifiers for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023.
Why It's Important?
This deal significantly enhances the visibility and accessibility of women's soccer in the U.S., providing fans with comprehensive coverage of major tournaments. It reflects a growing investment in women's sports, aligning with broader trends of increasing viewership and sponsorship in women's soccer. The agreement also strengthens CBS Sports' portfolio, which already includes rights to other major soccer properties like the UEFA Women's Champions League and Italy's Serie A. By securing these rights, CBS Sports positions itself as a leading broadcaster for women's soccer, potentially attracting new audiences and advertisers interested in the expanding market of women's sports.
What's Next?
Coverage will commence with the W Championship qualifiers starting February 27, leading to the Championship in November and December, which will determine qualifications for the FIFA Women's World Cup 2027 and the 2028 Summer Olympics. The W Champions Cup will also play a crucial role in qualifying teams for the FIFA Women's Champions Cup and the inaugural FIFA Women's Club World Cup. CBS Sports will provide extensive highlights and editorial content across its platforms, enhancing fan engagement and coverage of women's soccer.
