What's Happening?
NTT Research has introduced Scale Academy, a new initiative aimed at commercializing innovative technologies developed within its labs and across NTT divisions. The academy will serve as a startup incubator,
providing governance and resources to bring promising technologies to market. The first product to emerge from Scale Academy is SaltGrain, a zero-trust data security suite designed for post-quantum deployment. This product leverages attribute-based encryption to enhance data security and privacy, addressing the needs of businesses in the AI era. NTT Research President and CEO Kazu Gomi emphasized the academy's role in transforming scientific research into market success. Bennett Indart, senior vice president of product innovation, will lead the academy, focusing on supporting groundbreaking products and addressing cybersecurity challenges.
Why It's Important?
The launch of Scale Academy represents a strategic shift for NTT Research, expanding its focus from basic scientific research to the commercialization of technology. This initiative is crucial as it aims to bridge the gap between research and market application, potentially accelerating the development of innovative solutions in data security and other fields. By supporting technologies like SaltGrain, the academy addresses critical cybersecurity needs in an era where AI and data privacy are paramount. This move could position NTT Research as a leader in tech innovation, influencing industry standards and practices. Additionally, it highlights the importance of startup incubators in nurturing new ventures and driving economic growth through technological advancements.
