What's Happening?
Viking Mines, an exploration and development company, has expanded its strategic landholding in Nevada, USA, to 20 square kilometers. This expansion involves staking new mining claims to secure the interpreted
extensions of known tungsten systems. The company has gained control over the main geological trends surrounding its Linka, Ragged, Long, and Terrell Projects. CEO Julian Woodcock stated that this expansion provides the necessary 'room to grow' for their tungsten projects. The company is focusing on the development of metallurgical testwork flowsheets and has commenced sighter metallurgical testwork on samples from the Linka Pit. Additionally, Viking Mines is advancing towards submitting a Notice of Intent to secure drilling permits for their expanded portfolio.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Viking Mines' landholding in Nevada is significant for the U.S. mining industry, particularly in the tungsten sector. Tungsten is a critical mineral used in various industrial applications, including electronics and aerospace. By securing additional claims, Viking Mines positions itself to potentially increase tungsten production, which could contribute to reducing U.S. reliance on foreign sources for this critical mineral. The development of these projects could also lead to economic benefits in the region, including job creation and increased local investment. Furthermore, the strategic expansion aligns with broader efforts to bolster domestic mineral supply chains.
What's Next?
Viking Mines plans to continue advancing its projects by conducting high-resolution aerial surveys and gravity and magnetics surveys. The company is also sourcing historical data and evaluating assays from due diligence field sampling. The submission of a Notice of Intent for drilling permits is a critical next step, which, if approved, will allow Viking Mines to commence drilling operations. The outcomes of these activities will determine the feasibility and potential scale of tungsten production from these projects.
