Bleecker Street has acquired most global rights to the horror film 'When Darkness Loves Us,' directed by James Ashcroft and starring Emilia Clarke. The film, based on Elizabeth Engstrom's novella, follows a young woman who returns to the surface after
being trapped in an underground cave system for 15 years, determined to reclaim her family despite the monstrous consequences. Production recently concluded in New Zealand, with a theatrical release planned for 2027. The deal excludes Australia and New Zealand, where Umbrella Entertainment and Aotearoa New Zealand will handle distribution. The screenplay was co-written by Ashcroft, Hayley Sproull, and Eli Kent, with Desray Armstrong producing and Ant Timpson serving as executive producer. The project was financed by the New Zealand Film Commission and other entities.
