What's Happening?
Australia has made its debut at the Ties That Bind co-production program, a European-Asian initiative by EAVE (European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs). This marks the first time Australia has participated in the program, which is designed to foster co-productions
between Europe and Asia. The Australian delegation, led by industry development specialist Sheree Ramage, includes filmmakers Ana Tiwary and Katrina Irawati Graham from indiVisual films. They are working on projects that involve collaborations between Australia and countries like Indonesia, Myanmar, South Korea, Nepal, France, and Germany. The program, held in Udine, Italy, runs alongside the Far East Film Festival and Focus Asia, providing participants with opportunities to engage with buyers, financiers, and co-production partners.
Why It's Important?
Australia's participation in Ties That Bind is a strategic move to strengthen its film industry's international collaborations, particularly with Asia and Europe. This initiative reflects Australia's multicultural society and its geographical and historical ties to both regions. By engaging in such co-production programs, Australian filmmakers can access new markets, funding opportunities, and creative partnerships, enhancing the global reach and competitiveness of the Australian film industry. The involvement of Screen Australia and Screen Queensland underscores the national commitment to fostering international film collaborations.
