What's Happening?
NFI Group Inc., a prominent manufacturer of buses and coaches, has announced the appointment of Rob Marion as the new President of Motor Coach Industries (MCI). Effective April 2, 2026, Marion will report directly to NFI’s President and CEO, John Sapp.
Marion has been with New Flyer, a part of NFI, since 1994, holding various roles in engineering and manufacturing. His most recent position was Vice President of Fabrication, where he oversaw operations across North America. This appointment follows the retirement of Paul Soubry, who served as interim President of MCI. The decision to appoint Marion comes as MCI is re-established as a dedicated business unit, allowing it to focus on its core competencies amid a recovering market.
Why It's Important?
The appointment of Rob Marion as President of MCI is significant as it marks a strategic realignment within NFI Group. By re-establishing MCI as a standalone entity, NFI aims to capitalize on the recovering demand for motorcoaches. Marion's extensive experience in operational leadership and his commitment to quality and innovation are expected to drive MCI's growth. This move is also indicative of NFI's broader strategy to streamline operations and enhance its product offerings in response to past challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain disruptions. The leadership change is poised to strengthen MCI's market position and improve its service delivery to both public and private sectors.
What's Next?
Under Rob Marion's leadership, MCI is expected to focus on enhancing its product quality and customer experience. Marion has expressed his commitment to maintaining MCI's reputation as a preferred partner for motorcoach operators. The company plans to continue launching new vehicle models and expanding its service offerings. Stakeholders, including public and private customers, can anticipate a period of transition as Marion implements his vision for MCI. The focus will likely be on operational excellence and leveraging Marion's expertise in lean manufacturing to optimize production processes.
