What's Happening?
The ATX TV Festival has announced the finalists for its 2026 Pitch Competition & Mentorship Program. Ten projects have been selected, ranging from comedies to dramas, and will be presented by their creators at the festival in Austin, Texas, from May 28
to 31, 2026. The finalists were chosen based on a 90-second video pitch and a writing sample for a scripted series. They will pitch their projects live to a panel of industry judges, including showrunners, producers, and executives. The winner will receive a script read and general meeting with at least three ATX TV pitch judges or panelists, along with pitch mentorship and additional meetings. A runner-up will also receive feedback through two general meetings. The program aims to support emerging writers by providing mentorship, industry access, and ongoing support throughout the year.
Why It's Important?
The ATX TV Festival's Pitch Competition & Mentorship Program plays a crucial role in nurturing new talent in the television industry. By offering emerging writers the opportunity to present their work to established industry professionals, the program helps bridge the gap between aspiring creators and the competitive television market. This initiative not only aids in career development for the participants but also enriches the industry by introducing fresh voices and innovative ideas. The mentorship and networking opportunities provided can significantly impact the participants' future prospects, potentially leading to new projects and collaborations that could shape the future of television content.
What's Next?
Following the festival, the finalists will engage in a year-long program that includes individualized mentorship and monthly virtual roundtables with industry leaders. These sessions will offer career advice, insights into the workings of a writers' room, and guidance on preparing for meetings with executives, producers, agents, and managers. The program is designed to equip participants with the skills and connections needed to advance their careers in television. As the festival approaches, the finalists will continue to refine their pitches and prepare for the live competition, with the support of mentors like Rika Dharmesh Bhakta, who will lead a pitch workshop to help them hone their presentations.
