Lawrence Kensinger, a senior at Venice High School, achieved a significant milestone by breaking a 53-year-old City record in the shotput event at the City championships. Kensinger's throw of 65 feet, 11 inches surpassed the previous record of 64-08.75

He trains under Nick Garcia, a strength and conditioning coach, and has been consistently improving his performance, as evidenced by his recent record-breaking throw.
Why It's Important?
Kensinger's accomplishment is significant as it highlights the potential of young athletes in high school sports, particularly in track and field events. Breaking a long-standing record not only elevates Kensinger's profile but also brings attention to the competitive nature of high school athletics. This achievement could open opportunities for Kensinger in collegiate athletics, potentially leading to scholarships and further development in his sporting career. Additionally, it underscores the importance of dedicated coaching and training in achieving athletic excellence.
What's Next?
Kensinger plans to continue his athletic career by competing in college, with aspirations to participate in both shotput and hammer throw. He has expressed interest in attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, where his father played football, although he has not yet committed. Kensinger's focus will likely be on maintaining and improving his performance to compete at higher levels, including state and national competitions. His recent success may also inspire other young athletes to pursue excellence in track and field events.
