What's Happening?
Guardian Metal Resources is assessing the potential to recover tungsten and other metals from historical tailings at the Tempiute Project in Nevada. The company has conducted a detailed mapping and sampling program to evaluate the economic and environmental
remediation potential of the site. This initiative aims to provide a near-term, domestically sourced supply of tungsten in the U.S. The Tempiute Project, a past-producing skarn-type tungsten-zinc-copper-silver site, has existing infrastructure that could facilitate this effort. Guardian Metal has expanded its mineral rights, staking 193 mining claims and increasing the project's footprint by over 375%. An auger drilling program is scheduled to begin in June 2026 to further characterize the tailings material and surrounding soils.
Why It's Important?
The recovery of tungsten from the Tempiute Project is significant due to tungsten's designation as a critical defense metal by the U.S. government. With approximately 80% of global tungsten production controlled by China, securing a domestic supply is a strategic priority for the U.S. Tungsten is essential for various industries, including cutting tools, electronics, aerospace, and military applications. The potential success of this project could reduce U.S. dependency on foreign tungsten supplies, enhancing national security and economic stability. Additionally, the project could create jobs and stimulate economic activity in Nevada.
What's Next?
Guardian Metal plans to commence an auger drilling program in June 2026 to assess the environmental and resource potential of the tailings. The company has submitted a notice to the Bureau of Land Management and the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection for this program. Concurrently, an independent metallurgical study will be conducted to determine the most effective method for recovering tungsten and other metals. This study will also inform the final reclamation design of the site. Results from these efforts are expected in the coming months, which will guide future development and potential production activities.
