What's Happening?
Chinese automaker Chery has started selling its humanoid robot to consumers, priced at approximately $41,830. The robot, developed by Chery's robotics brand Aimoga, is available for purchase through the company's flagship store on JD.com. Initially used
as a sales assistant in automotive showrooms, the robot is now being marketed for broader consumer use. Chery is also expanding its sales and distribution network, targeting not only car dealerships but also other retail and public service settings. The company has signed agreements with over 300 distributors and is developing a hybrid sales model.
Why It's Important?
Chery's entry into the consumer robotics market represents a significant step in the commercialization of humanoid robots. This move reflects a broader trend among Chinese companies to leverage their manufacturing capabilities in emerging sectors like embodied AI. The introduction of such robots into consumer markets could pave the way for more widespread adoption of robotics in everyday life, potentially transforming how tasks are performed in home and retail environments. However, the practicality of these robots in home settings remains to be seen, as their current capabilities are primarily focused on conversational interaction and structured demonstrations.
