Amazon's Zoox is set to expand its robotaxi service to Austin and Miami later in 2026, with plans to introduce paid rides in Las Vegas by late June, contingent on approval from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The company is also
significantly increasing its coverage area in San Francisco to include neighborhoods such as the Marina, North Beach, Chinatown, and Pacific Heights. Zoox has already provided 350,000 free rides in San Francisco and Las Vegas, ranking it second in the U.S. for public robotaxi services. The company is seeking a two-year exemption from federal vehicle safety standards to commercially operate its steering-wheel-free vehicles, with a public consultation on this exemption closing in early April.
