What's Happening?
Rochester is set to host two downtown walking tours that will explore the city's industrial history along the Genesee River. The first tour, scheduled for May 21, will cover the High Falls Historic District, showcasing how early settlers utilized the river's
power for mills and factories. The second tour, on June 4, titled 'Beyond Flour and Flowers: Industry in Rochester,' will focus on local industries and inventions. Both tours are organized by the Local History & Genealogy Division of the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County and require registration. These tours aim to educate participants about Rochester's transformation into an industrial hub.
Why It's Important?
These walking tours offer a unique opportunity to engage with Rochester's rich industrial heritage, fostering a deeper understanding of the city's historical development. By highlighting the role of the Genesee River in powering early industries, the tours provide insights into the economic and social factors that shaped Rochester.
