What's Happening?
The Fall River Public Library is set to host a concert by the Voices Unheard ensemble on March 26. This classical chamber group focuses on celebrating and promoting the contributions of women in music. The event, which is free and open to the public,
will feature a brass quintet led by Assistant Director Maddi Gibberson. Voices Unheard aims to highlight music by women from the past, contemporary works by female composers, and foster opportunities for future women in music. The ensemble also commissions pieces from emerging female composers, providing them with resources to establish their careers.
Why It's Important?
The concert by Voices Unheard underscores the importance of diversity and representation in the arts. By focusing on female composers and musicians, the ensemble not only celebrates their contributions but also challenges the historical underrepresentation of women in classical music. This initiative provides a platform for emerging female artists, helping to ensure a more inclusive future for the music industry. Events like this can inspire other cultural institutions to adopt similar programs, promoting gender equality and diversity across the arts.
