What's Happening?
SPT Labtech has announced the availability of validated automated workflows for Twist Bioscience’s next-generation sequencing (NGS) library preparation kits on its firefly® liquid handling platform. This development is a result of a collaboration between SPT Labtech and Twist Bioscience, aimed at supporting higher-throughput and more reproducible NGS library preparation. The workflows are accessible through the firefly cloud, allowing for improved consistency and reduced hands-on time as sequencing volumes increase. The initial workflow supports Twist Bioscience’s FlexPrep™ UHT library prep kit and integrates the Twist Enzymatic Fragmentation Kit 2.0 with firefly. This collaboration is expected to expand SPT Labtech’s portfolio of validated,
automated workflows.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration between SPT Labtech and Twist Bioscience is significant for the genomics research community, as it addresses the growing demand for standardized automated protocols. By providing validated, hands-free solutions, the partnership aims to improve the efficiency and reproducibility of NGS workflows. This is particularly important as sequencing volumes continue to rise, necessitating more efficient and scalable solutions. The automation of these workflows not only enhances the speed and scalability of NGS library preparation but also reduces the complexity for laboratories, allowing them to quickly implement and scale these methods as needed.
What's Next?
As the collaboration progresses, SPT Labtech and Twist Bioscience are expected to continue expanding their portfolio of automated workflows. This will likely involve the integration of additional Twist NGS library preparation kits with the firefly platform. The ongoing development of these workflows will provide laboratories with more options to adopt automation, further enhancing their capabilities in genomics research. The success of this collaboration could also encourage other companies in the biotechnology sector to pursue similar partnerships, driving further innovation in automated laboratory solutions.
