What's Happening?
TotalEnergies ENEOS has entered into a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Jintana Intertrade Co., Ltd., a Thai garment manufacturer, to develop a 650 kilowatt-peak rooftop solar photovoltaic system at Jintana's plant in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.
The installation, comprising approximately 1,000 solar PV modules, is expected to generate over 1,000 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually, covering around 55% of the plant's electricity needs and reducing CO2 emissions by more than 480 tons annually. Under the agreement, TotalEnergies ENEOS will finance, design, install, operate, and maintain the system, while Jintana will purchase the electricity produced. This partnership aims to provide Jintana with electricity cost savings, long-term energy price stability, and enhanced sustainability credentials.
Why It's Important?
This agreement highlights the growing trend of integrating renewable energy solutions in industrial operations, which can significantly reduce carbon footprints and operational costs. For TotalEnergies ENEOS, this project is part of a broader strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio across Asia, aiming to develop 2 GW of decentralized solar capacity over the next five years. The initiative aligns with global efforts to transition to sustainable energy sources, offering economic and environmental benefits. For Jintana, the partnership not only reduces energy costs but also enhances its sustainability profile, which can be a competitive advantage in the global market.
