What's Happening?
A new study reveals that Gen Z is more likely to cancel and renew streaming subscriptions based on the availability of specific titles, indicating a lack of platform loyalty. Additionally, 62% of Gen Z consumers prefer not to pay full price for video
games, opting instead for subscription services or free-to-play models. Despite these trends, Gen Z is more likely to attend movie premieres, viewing theatrical experiences as social events. The study, conducted by Kantar and UC Berkeley, surveyed over 6,000 entertainment consumers across the U.S., U.K., and Australia.
Why It's Important?
These findings highlight a shift in consumer behavior among Gen Z, with implications for the entertainment industry. Streaming platforms may need to focus on creating compelling, long-term content to retain subscribers, while gaming companies might explore new monetization models to attract Gen Z consumers. The preference for social and communal experiences also suggests opportunities for theaters to enhance the movie-going experience to appeal to younger audiences.
