What's Happening?
The SME Climate Hub, in collaboration with software company Giki and supported by the UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, has introduced a new tool called the Climate Action Planner. This tool is designed to assist small and medium-sized
enterprises (SMEs) in developing climate action plans to mitigate the impact of energy shocks. The recent surge in oil prices, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, has highlighted the vulnerability of global energy markets. SMEs, which constitute about 90% of businesses worldwide and contribute to roughly half of global GDP, are particularly susceptible to these fluctuations due to their limited capacity to absorb such shocks. The Climate Action Planner aims to provide SMEs with a structured, accessible process to identify and implement practical actions that can reduce energy use and improve operational efficiency, thereby enhancing their economic resilience.

The introduction of the Climate Action Planner is significant as it addresses the urgent need for SMEs to adapt to volatile energy markets.
