What's Happening?
The Springfield Botanical Gardens in Missouri will host a Spring Native Plant Sale on May 9, offering a variety of native wildflowers, grasses, vines, shrubs, and trees. The event, held at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, will feature family-friendly
activities, including the opening of the Roston Native Butterfly House, free tram tours, and demonstrations at the historic Gray/Campbell Farmstead. The sale is in partnership with Ozark Soul Native Plants, which is accepting advance orders for pickup. The event aims to promote the use of native plants, which support local wildlife and reduce landscape maintenance.
Why It's Important?
The native plant sale at Springfield Botanical Gardens highlights the importance of using native species in landscaping to support biodiversity and ecological health. Native plants provide essential habitats for local wildlife, including songbirds and pollinators, and require less maintenance than non-native species. This event not only educates the public about the environmental benefits of native plants but also fosters community engagement through interactive activities. By encouraging the adoption of native plants, the event contributes to sustainable gardening practices and environmental conservation efforts in the region.
