NYK held its third annual Dry Bulk Safety Conference in Athens, Greece, on January 21, 2026. The event gathered 150 participants from 70 Greek shipowners and companies involved in the dry bulk sector.
Originally launched in Japan in 2010, the conference expanded to Greece in 2024. The conference focused on sharing case studies of past maritime accidents and incidents, along with countermeasures and crew welfare measures. NYK introduced 'NAV9000 Plus,' an enhanced safety standard for its vessels, and demonstrated new fuel additives developed by Nippon Oil & Chemical Industries Co., Ltd. The event also featured the MarCoPay electronic money platform for seafarers, expanded through a collaboration with Kadmos. NYK Shipmanagement Pte. Ltd. showcased IT-driven vessel management practices using AI. Presentations included cybersecurity trends by Class NK and evolving GHG regulations by Class ABS. WISTA Hellas discussed fostering a safety culture through leadership that respects diversity. A panel discussion addressed challenges in maritime training, safety standards, and risk management, with a focus on Generation Z and digitalization.
