What's Happening?
Limited Run Games has announced that the Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection will be removed from digital storefronts by March 31, 2026. This collection, released in November 2023, includes seven titles
inspired by the Jurassic Park movies from the 8-bit and 16-bit era. The games are available on platforms such as the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, Switch eShop, and Steam. The company has not provided a specific reason for the delisting, but it follows a pattern of removing titles due to expired licensing deals, as seen with other collections like Bill & Ted's Excellent Retro Collection. Physical copies of the collection will still be available for purchase.
Why It's Important?
The removal of the Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection highlights the challenges of digital game preservation, particularly when it comes to licensing agreements. As digital storefronts become more prevalent, the availability of classic games is often subject to the terms of these agreements, which can lead to the loss of access for consumers. This situation underscores the importance of transparency and communication from game publishers regarding the availability of digital content. For fans and collectors, the delisting serves as a reminder of the impermanence of digital media and the potential need to secure physical copies to ensure continued access.
