What's Happening?
The Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series is set to return for its 2026 season, offering free Thursday night concerts at downtown Springfield's Y-Block. This year marks the beginning of a new three-year grant cycle from the Levitt Foundation, which is crucial
for the continuation of these events. Since its inception in 2019, the series has seen significant growth, with attendance nearly doubling to 16,000 last season. The 2026 lineup includes a variety of genres such as Americana, jazz, bluegrass, funk, and more, featuring both national and international acts. Local musicians will also have the opportunity to perform, providing them with a major platform and paid opportunities. The series aims to celebrate Springfield's arts community, featuring not only music but also dance performances, food trucks, and family activities.
Why It's Important?
The Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series plays a significant role in boosting the local economy and enhancing community engagement. By attracting large crowds to downtown Springfield, the series supports local businesses and vendors. It also provides a platform for local artists, contributing to the cultural vibrancy of the area. The series fosters a sense of community by offering free, accessible entertainment that brings people together. Additionally, the involvement of local arts organizations and the provision of family-friendly activities make it a comprehensive cultural event that benefits the entire community.
What's Next?
The 2026 season will kick off on May 28 with performances by Americana artist Chloe Kimes and local band Chaos in Red. The Springfield Area Arts Council is currently in the process of hiring a new program director to oversee the Levitt AMP series and other community arts initiatives. As the series progresses, it is expected to continue drawing large crowds and providing economic and cultural benefits to Springfield. The success of this year's series could influence future funding and support for similar community arts programs.
