What's Happening?
Geely Auto has successfully conducted a dual-sided crash test for its Starray EM-i model at UTAC's Euro NCAP-accredited facility in France. This test, which exceeds the current Euro NCAP side-impact standards, involved a side-impact strike combined with
a far-side rigid pole intrusion. Conducted at 60 km/h, the test is described as the first of its kind in Europe, simulating a multi-vehicle chain collision. The Starray EM-i maintained structural integrity, deployed airbags effectively, and protected its NEV battery. This achievement was showcased at the 'Automotive Safety Tech Globalization & Innovation in the Smart Driving Era' summit, highlighting Geely's commitment to advancing vehicle safety standards.
Why It's Important?
Geely's successful crash test of the Starray EM-i underscores the company's dedication to vehicle safety and innovation. By exceeding existing safety standards, Geely sets a new benchmark for automotive safety, potentially influencing regulatory bodies to adopt more stringent testing protocols. This advancement not only enhances consumer confidence in Geely's vehicles but also positions the company as a leader in automotive safety technology. The test's success could lead to increased market competitiveness and drive further innovation in the industry. Additionally, Geely's decision to open select safety patents to industry peers promotes collaboration and accelerates the development of safer vehicles globally.
What's Next?
Following the successful crash test, Geely may focus on integrating these advanced safety features into its production models, potentially leading to higher safety ratings across various global assessments. The company might also engage with regulatory bodies to advocate for updated safety standards that reflect the capabilities demonstrated in the test. As Geely continues to innovate, it could explore partnerships with other automakers to share its safety technologies, fostering industry-wide improvements. The positive reception of the Starray EM-i's safety performance may also encourage Geely to expand its market presence, leveraging its reputation for safety to attract new customers.
