What's Happening?
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises has announced the launch of its Amazon Season 2026, offering unique expeditions deep into the rainforests to Iquitos. The cruise line is one of the few operators navigating the Amazon River with small expedition ships, providing access
to remote regions and rich biodiversity. The Hanseatic Spirit recently departed from Belem, Brazil, on an 18-day upstream journey to Iquitos, Peru. These expeditions are highly sought after, with only two voyages offered each year. The cruises feature small ships with shallow drafts, allowing access to remote tributaries, and include onboard lectures and Zodiac excursions for an immersive experience.
Why It's Important?
The Amazon expeditions by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises offer travelers a rare opportunity to explore one of the world's most biodiverse regions while supporting sustainable tourism practices. These voyages contribute to the local economy by engaging with riverside communities and promoting cultural exchange. The cruises also emphasize environmental stewardship, as the small ships are designed to minimize ecological impact. This initiative highlights the growing demand for eco-friendly travel experiences and the importance of preserving natural habitats while providing educational opportunities for travelers.
