What's Happening?
The OpenGOAL team has completed its project to port the entire Jak & Daxter trilogy to PC, marking a significant achievement for fans of the series. This project, which required a legally obtained copy of the games to run, offers a superior experience
compared to emulation or original hardware. The ports are less resource-intensive, have fewer bugs, and provide more configuration options. The team used Game Oriented Assembly Lisp, a programming language developed by Naughty Dog, to achieve this feat. The project does not include the PSP spinoffs but may consider Jak X: Combat Racing in the future.
Why It's Important?
The successful porting of the Jak & Daxter trilogy to PC is a significant development for the gaming community, particularly for fans of classic PlayStation titles. It demonstrates the dedication and skill of independent developers in preserving and enhancing older games for modern platforms. This project not only revitalizes interest in the Jak & Daxter series but also sets a precedent for similar efforts to bring other classic games to PC. It highlights the potential for community-driven projects to expand the accessibility and longevity of beloved gaming franchises.
