What's Happening?
Regeneron Pharmaceuticals has expanded its collaboration with CytomX Therapeutics to develop bispecific antibodies for cancer treatment. The partnership, initially established in 2022, now includes an additional
$37 million upfront and up to $2 billion in contingent payments. CytomX's Probody platform, which masks biologic therapies until they reach cancer cells, is central to this collaboration. Regeneron aims to develop conditionally activated bispecific therapies, minimizing off-target effects. CytomX will assist in discovery and validation, while Regeneron will handle preclinical, clinical, regulatory, and commercial activities.
Why It's Important?
This expanded collaboration underscores the potential of bispecific antibodies in cancer treatment, offering a targeted approach that could improve efficacy and reduce side effects. By leveraging CytomX's Probody platform, Regeneron aims to develop therapies that are activated only in the presence of cancer cells, enhancing precision in treatment. This partnership reflects a broader trend in oncology towards more personalized and targeted therapies, which could lead to better patient outcomes and a reduction in treatment-related toxicities. The collaboration also highlights the importance of strategic partnerships in advancing innovative cancer therapies.
