What's Happening?
The adidas Foundation, Beyond Sport, and Common Goal have launched the Play Coll3ctive initiative to expand access to youth sports in North America, coinciding with the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This multiyear program, part of the adidas Foundation's Playing
for Purpose, aims to create safer and more inclusive sports environments for underserved youth in World Cup host cities across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. With a $4.87 million commitment over three years, the initiative will provide grants and support to community sports organizations, fostering long-term youth development and participation in sports.
Why It's Important?
Play Coll3ctive addresses the critical issue of limited access to sports for underserved youth, which has broader implications for public health and social equity. By investing in community sports infrastructure, the initiative aims to improve physical and mental health outcomes, build teamwork skills, and strengthen community ties. For the U.S., this program represents a significant step towards creating a more equitable sports ecosystem, potentially influencing future policies and investments in youth sports. The initiative's focus on sustainability and long-term impact sets it apart from typical short-term World Cup community programs.
