Scott Tassone, a physical education teacher at Oakstead Elementary School in Land O’ Lakes, Florida, has been awarded the NHL and NHLPA’s 2026 Future Goals Most Valuable Teacher Award. This accolade is part of the Future Goals initiative, funded by the NHL and NHLPA's
Industry Growth Fund, which aims to integrate hockey into educational programs to enhance learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Tassone was recognized during a pep rally at his school, which was initially organized to celebrate the Tampa Bay Lightning's participation in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The event was attended by students, community members, and the Lightning mascot, ThunderBug. Tassone expressed his surprise and excitement at receiving the award, highlighting the support from his family and the community.
