What's Happening?
The AHLA Foundation hosted its annual FORWARD/26 event at the Signia by Hilton in Atlanta, attracting over 1,000 hospitality professionals from across the United States. The two-day event aimed to address the underrepresentation of women in executive
leadership roles within the hotel and lodging industry. It featured main-stage presentations, breakout sessions, and networking opportunities for professionals at various career stages. Notable speakers included Bobbi Brown, Chief Creative Officer at Jones Road Beauty, and Justin Knight, President and CEO of Apple Hospitality REIT. The event also included a Community Hub for skill development and the Flash FORWARD Mentoring Program, offering one-on-one mentoring conversations.
Why It's Important?
The FORWARD/26 event is crucial in promoting gender equality and diversity within the hospitality industry, which has historically seen fewer women in executive roles. By providing mentorship, education, and networking opportunities, the event supports the professional growth of women and helps bridge the leadership gap. This initiative can lead to more inclusive and diverse leadership teams, which are known to drive better business outcomes and innovation. The event also highlights the industry's commitment to addressing systemic issues and fostering a supportive environment for women to advance their careers.
What's Next?
The AHLA Foundation plans to continue its efforts with the FORWARD initiative, with the next event, FORWARD/27, scheduled for May 5-7, 2027, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C. The foundation will likely expand its programs and partnerships to further support women in the hospitality industry. Stakeholders, including sponsors like American Express and Hilton, may continue to play a significant role in promoting these initiatives. The ongoing focus on mentorship and leadership development is expected to contribute to a gradual increase in the representation of women in executive positions within the industry.
