What's Happening?
Team Panoptes has announced the development of Panoptic II, a sequel to the innovative 'PC vs. VR' game Panoptic. The new game will expand the original's 1v1 hide-and-seek gameplay to support up to 1v4 multiplayer, allowing more players to participate as non-VR 'hiders' using mobile devices. The game will also be accessible on Quest 3 and other platforms, broadening its reach. The studio plans to fund the development through a Patreon campaign and aims to release early versions for testing in the first quarter of the year.
Why It's Important?
Panoptic II's development highlights the growing interest in asymmetric multiplayer games that leverage VR technology. By expanding the player base and platform compatibility, the game could attract a wider audience and enhance
the social gaming experience. The use of mobile devices for non-VR players increases accessibility, potentially making the game a popular choice for group play. This development reflects broader trends in the gaming industry, where innovation in gameplay mechanics and platform integration continues to drive growth and engagement.
