What's Happening?
Simply Paddle, a new self-service kayak and paddleboard rental kiosk, has opened in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Located on River Point Drive along the Manitowoc River, the business was founded by Ben and Stephanie Peters, who are passionate about water activities.
The kiosk offers four single kayaks, two tandem kayaks, and two stand-up paddleboards. Users can rent equipment by interacting with a self-serve payment system, which unlocks the necessary gear, including lifejackets and paddles. The location provides easy access to the river, allowing paddlers to explore local attractions such as the USS Cobia and the SS Badger, or to enjoy the natural surroundings, which include sightings of otters, osprey, and snapping turtles. Rental costs are $25 for two hours on a single kayak or paddleboard, with additional hours priced at $10. Tandem kayaks start at $30 for two hours.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Simply Paddle's self-service kiosk represents a growing trend in recreational activities that prioritize convenience and accessibility. By offering an automated rental system, the business reduces the need for on-site staff, potentially lowering operational costs and allowing for extended hours of service. This model could attract more visitors to Manitowoc, boosting local tourism and supporting the economy. Additionally, the kiosk encourages outdoor activities, promoting health and wellness among residents and tourists. The initiative also highlights a shift towards sustainable business practices, as it encourages the use of non-motorized watercraft, which have a minimal environmental impact compared to motorized alternatives.
What's Next?
Simply Paddle plans to expand its offerings by hosting events in collaboration with local organizations. This could include guided tours, educational programs, or community events that further engage the local population and visitors. The success of this kiosk could inspire similar ventures in other locations, potentially leading to a network of self-service rental stations across the region. As the business grows, it may also explore partnerships with local businesses to create package deals or promotions, enhancing the overall visitor experience in Manitowoc.
