The American Battery Technology Company (ABTC) has successfully regained a $115 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) to fund the first phase of a commercial-scale lithium refinery at its Tonopah Flats Lithium Project in Nevada. This
project, situated in the Big Smoky Valley, spans over 10,340 acres and is managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Initially awarded in October 2022, the grant was terminated in October 2025 but has now been reinstated following an appeal and review process. The refinery aims to produce 5,000 tonnes per annum of battery-grade lithium hydroxide.
